About Bhalchandra Colorlab
Bhalchandra R. Modi was a social worker and worked in Sevasangh at Mandavi ni Pole, Ahmedabad, Gujarat for many years. He had keen interest in photography and started pursuing that interest in 1954.
He was appointed as a press photographer of a local daily Jansatta. He had provided his services as a photographer of Governor of Gujarat at Rajbhavan, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad for many years. Gradually he started his own photography business as an outdoor photographer. After a long hard experience in this field, he earned his fame as “Bhalchandra Photographer" in Gujarat.
Manesh B. Modi learned photography under his father and Photo Guru, Bhalchandrabhai. He also joined Jansatta as a press photographer and started outdoor photography.
Bhalchandra and Manesh were the first in Gujarat to start a photocopying Xerox business on a machine by Systronic. Photocopying costed Rs.6 per page at that time.
In those days no books were available on Color Photography. So they started color photo printing by using transparent red, green and blue gelatin paper as a trial. They also prepared the required chemicals for film roll developing and printing from raw chemicals.
